"The Red Thread" is a symbolic saying very popular among families adopting from China. The Red Thread is an old Chinese saying that means when babies are born they are already connected to the important people in his/her life by a red thread. This thread can be twisted or stretched, but not broken.
The Red Thread is an important symbol of being connected during the time that families wait for their referrals. Even during the time of paperwork chase, it gives families some feeling of connection that no matter what the red thread will not break.
The color “red” in general is a popular color associated with Asian styles. Maybe that is why another symbol that adopting families talk about is the ladybug. On websites that offer personal adoption stories, it is common to see “the red thread” spoken about as well as stories of people seeing “ladybugs” as a sign of good luck.
Today I had lunch with Lisa. While we were waiting for our food to arrive I notice a ladybug on the window directly behind her. As she turned around to get a look, I noticed another one a ittle higher up the window. There were two ladybuds right in front of us. I think Lisa and I both believed it to be a sign of our waiting daughter(s).
By the way, I think it is only fair to mention that there is a slight possibility that we may be referred twins. In that case, we do have another name picked out.
Susan Renee
Sometimes I feel Susan Renee does not get enough mention either when we talk of pending adoption or on this blog. So for this post all the attention goes to Susan Renee. Say hello to Susan everybody!
This name has a special meaning for Lisa and I will leave it up to her if she wants to share it.
